Laboratory Testing

At AML, we believe a lot can be said about one's metabolic health status by examining specific factors in the blood. Therefore, we recommend that everyone schedule a blood draw with AML. To inquire about our blood screening or to schedule a blood draw please contact our office at CONTACT INFO.

The BASIC METABOLIC PANEL consists of the blood tests that are the best measures of your health:

Leptin
Insulin
Hemoglobin A1C
Free T3
Chem 30 (basic blood chemistry panel)

In the future, we will offer blood tests that come closer to measure one's true metabolic health status currently being tested by our research laboratory. These tests will be exclusively performed by AML's in-house clinical laboratory.

Leptin

Leptin, which is produced by your fat cells, is the key hormone that regulates both appetite and weight loss.  It tells your brain when to eat, how much and most importantly, when to stop eating.   Leptin is also critical for many of the body’s most important functions, including the regulation of blood circulation, prevention of blood clots, making new bone, regulation of body temperature and reproduction. Because Leptin can act directly on the brain and peripheral tissues, the circulating levels in the blood are very important to keep at an optimal level.

Insulin

Insulin is also involved in how your body utilizes energy. Best known for its effect on blood sugar, insulin regulates the energy needs of nearly every cell in your body. In addition to clearing glucose out of the blood, it determines whether that glucose will be used for immediate energy needs, be converted into glycogen for use over the next few hours or be converted into fat for future needs.  This explains why elevated insulin and leptin resistance go hand in hand in promoting weight gain.

Hemoglobin A1c

Glucose interacts with proteins in a process called glycation or glycosylation. Hembglobin A1c measures the percentage of hemoglobin that is glycosylated and is used by most doctors to estimate average blood sugar levels.

Free T3

Free T3 measures blood levels of the unbound form of the most active thyroid hormone. When the thyroid produces excessive amounts of hormones, the body runs hot. It wears down the engine and wastes energy. An underactive thyroid, or hypothyroidism, causes an excessive slowdown in metabolism accompanied by too low temperature, fatigue, slow heartbeat, and high triglycerides, dry skin and hair, cold hands and feet, depression, menstrual problems and memory disturbances.

Chem 30 panel

Includes: Glucose, Na+, K+, Phos, Cl, BUN, Creat, , Ca, ALT, AST, GGT, Bili T, Bili Dir, Uric Acid, Prot, Alb, Totglob, A/G ratio, B/C ratio, ALP, LD, Mg, Ferritin, Cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL, LDL, TSH, LDL Interp, TG/HDL ratio with a CBC.

The Chem 30 panel tests for standard blood parameters that help us assess your general well-being. From this test, we get information on many factors but most importantly, we learn about your Triglycerides and Ferritin levels. Triglycerides are a measure of fat and Ferritin measures total iron stored in your body. Too much Ferritin can be toxic to your cells

AML offers additional tests that are not listed here. Please CONTACT our office for additional information.
